The waltz is basically a dance that is devoid of any dramatic movements. This dance involves movement along a line of dance. Taking a step, a slide and a three quarter step with rise and fall movements form the basics of the dance. The dancers’ shoulders should be moved subtly in a parallel pattern with the floor. The aim of the dancers is to expand each stride taken. The first second and third movement upon the beat follow a specific order of stepping on the heel to the ball of the feet ending with a raise to the toes. The end of the third step should see the dances restore their feet to their normal position.

The Viennese waltz is comprised of rotational movements and has a reputation of being classical. The partners rotate on the floor while revolving around each other. The acceleration applied in this dance beats the one in the classical waltz. It comprises of a simpler version that can be easily executed making it perfect for social occasions. It features sweeping turns and graceful motions that exude an image of simplicity and elegance.

The foxtrot dance is comprised of walking steps and side steps. Long steps alongside the rise and fall motion present in the waltz are incorporated in a more subtle manner. The box line is similar to that of the waltz but the timing creates a diversity. The steps may be quickened or slowed utilizing a beat or two in that order.

The tango has appealed to a larger audience. It’s reception may be due to its characteristic romantic ambience associated with it. Mostly a pair made up of a man and a woman are involved. It is comprised of distinct dance steps all under the same wing. The type of tango being undertaken may be characterized by an open or closed embrace. The open embrace gives personal space to both partners while its counterpart involves contact in the chest or hip areaThe ballroom dance encompasses movements that convey feelings that have not been uttered.
